Afternoon Tea at the Governor’s
We were extremely proud of our Headway gang last week as we glammed up for afternoon tea at Government House. Mrs Lynda Walker has become a regular at Styx, volunteering at our Friday socials and even leading a session on embroidery, and in honour of Brain Injury Awareness Week she invited Headway members, staff and volunteers to her not-so-humble home.
We arrived in our Sunday best, with hats a compulsory accessory. Brain Injury is often an invisible injury with no marks on the body so wearing a hat is a way of drawing attention to the head.
Mrs Walker invited us to stroll through the gardens, enjoying the sunshine and the vegetable gardens before heading into the ball room for sandwiches, cakes and tea. His Excellency Peter Walker, or ‘H.E’ as he is affectionately called by his wife, even made an appearance and explained the impressive history of the house and its inhabitants.
It was a truly lovely afternoon and a real treat.
Thank you very much to His Excellency Peter Walker and Mrs Lynda Walker for opening your home to us and thank you to all the staff at Government House for looking after us so well. We all felt terribly special and had a wonderful time.
