Out the Blue Adventure
It was a sunny day in July and some Headway members were about to have the time of their life.
Each month we organise a social for our crew for a bit of fun and to allow our members to have experiences out in the community that they might otherwise struggle to have. This summer we thought we would try something a bit different and invited a small group of Headway members on a fishing trip with Richard Seager from Out the Blue.
To say it was a good day would be an enormous understatement. Members, staff and volunteers arrived back from the boat smiling like the Cheshire Cat. Most of the group had not been out fishing since their brain injury; spirits were high and the atmosphere was electric.
One member in particular had been a very keen fisherman prior to his stroke two years ago and the trip was an emotional time for him as he was able to capture something of a hobby that had meant so much.
The guys caught an impressive 28 fish, which have lined the bellies of members and staff. Two weeks later, the fishing trip is still a hot topic at out Headway House social.
A massive thank you to Richard who went above and beyond. His boat is very accessible for those with a disability and he took us out with no charge. It was an incredible morning and an experience that will not be soon forgotten.
